KEENELAND DERBY WORKS - 5

You Street Sense fans will love this.  I happened to be in the jock's room this afternoon at the same time Calvin Borel's Derby saddle was being delivered.  Borel had a saddle custom-made to match Mr. Tafel's screaming yellow and blue silks!!!  Who but a crazy cajun would pimp his ride for The Kentucky Derby?

Cowtown Cat (4.5 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... in company ... :58.2

Clocker's Comments:  "In company with the very nice colt and stakes winner Out of Gwedda (:59.0).  Began two lengths behind, collared and passed late, and finished 3/4 lengths clear, with the final 1/4 in an easy 24.1.  Like all Pletcher charges to date, looks super."

Bold Start (4.75 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... alone ... :58.4

Clocker's Comments:  "Put this one in your Stable Mail and hope he shows-up on the undercard, and not the Derby.  As easy as can be! Galloped-out 6F in 1:12.0, 7/8ths in 1.26.0, and looked like he wanted more."

Octave (4.5 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... in company ... :58.0

Clocker's Comments:  "Shared Black letter w/stablemate Cotton Blossom (:58.0), galloped out a very strong 1.11.3, and would be the nutz for Oaks glory ... except for that freak in the stall next to her!"

Scat Daddy (4.5 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... alone ... 1:00.4

Clocker's Comments:  "Easy maintenance work and what you'd expect from a late runner in a one-paced breeze (final quarter in 24.0) and gallop-out (6F in 1.15.0)."

Any Given Saturday (4.5 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... alone ... :58.4

Clocker's Comments:  "Worked in company with Pleasant Strike (:59.1), spotted him a length, caught late and 1/2 length clear at the wire in final quarter of :22.4.  Like his Derby roommates, changes leads without prompting, straight as a string down the lane, and makes it look effortless."

Circular Quay (4.75 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... in company ... 1:00.1

Rags to Riches (5.0 Stars)  -  5F ... breezing ... in company ... 1:00.1

Clocker's Comments:  "The Diamond Duo!  If ever you wanted to see equine poetry in motion, it's these two when they get together, and the "Big" Horse I have a feeling is getting pissed.  With R2R on the inner again, their work looked like a replay of the previous with a vigorous but effortless final quarter in :23.2, and R2R just refusing to let CQ put a nose hair in front of her at any time, including the gallop-out in 1:13.0 where they remained glued to each other. The smallish, compact CQ remains the most impressive worker of this year's 3YOs I've seen.  With hangers, that is.  His girlfriend is flat-out bonkers."
